Originally conceived as a protected swimming area for children, the sea-walled cove began to fill with sand and eventually, sea lions and harbor seals. There is still ongoing debate over who is more entitled to this spot—children or the seals, but it does not diminish its appeal to tourists and locals. It is an easy walk from local eateries and full of pretty flowers. Well worth the time.
The area can be surprisingly peaceful and serene. It’s a great place to take a photo while walking along the seawall for gorgeous 360-degree views of La Jolla and the Pacific ocean.
